Our Mission
Empowering HER Destiny (EHD) is a nonprofit dedicated to affirming and protecting Black girlhood through mentoring, mental health programming, and leadership development. We create healing-centered spaces where Black girls and their caregivers build confidence, voice, and community. Centered in radical care, truth-telling, and celebration, our work ensures Black girls are seen, supported, and able to thrive—now and into their futures.

Our Space Matters
Black girls are growing up in spaces where their confidence is often diminished, their emotions misunderstood, and their girlhood insufficiently protected. Research shows that many girls experience a decline in self-esteem beginning in middle school—with little improvement without intentional support. For Black girls, this decline is compounded by adultification bias, limiting access to grace, compassion, and emotional safety.
Empowering HER Destiny was founded by Dr. Rosalind J. Fleming in response to these realities—shaped by her lived experience as an educator, school leader, and researcher. While leading an all-girls school serving predominantly Black students, she witnessed how disciplinary disparities, lowered expectations, and the absence of affirming spaces disrupted Black girls’ ability to thrive.
What began as community-based workshops evolved into a deeper commitment: creating spaces where Black girls are seen, supported, and safe to be themselves. Empowering HER Destiny exists to protect Black girlhood, restore confidence, and ensure Black girls have the support they need to heal, grow, and lead.
What We Build Together
Empowering HER Destiny creates spaces where Black girls and their caregivers are supported, affirmed, and seen in their full humanity. Through mentoring, mental health programming, and leadership development, we center healing, voice, and community as essential to thriving girlhood.
Our programs are rooted in radical care and othermothering—building trusted relationships that nurture confidence, self-advocacy, and belonging. By working alongside families, schools, and community partners, we ensure Black girls are not navigating their journeys alone, but surrounded by people committed to their growth, safety, and joy.
