Imagine a room full of Black girls—laughing, journaling, braiding each other’s hair, recording audio letters to their future selves. They’re not just being mentored. They’re building an archive. This year, our mentoring program is taking a bold leap forward: we’re preserving the beauty, brilliance, and complexity of Black girlhood. Our girls will visit Black history museums. They’ll sit at the feet of Black women elders. They’ll document their own stories through digital recordings, artwork, poetry, and interviews. It's more than mentorship. It’s memory-keeping. It’s legacy work. It’s giving our girls permission to be seen, be heard, and be remembered. By 2025, we’ll have created the first cohort-generated archive of Black girlhood in our community. It will be a living, breathing testimony that Black girls matter, not just in the moment, but in history.
